After the Spanish Civil War, in the harsh post-war years’ of the Catalan countryside, Andreu, a child that belongs to the losing pro-republic side, finds the corpses of a man and his son in the forest. Authorities want his father to be made responsible of the deaths, but Andreu tries to help his father by finding out who truly killed them. Separated from his father, in order to survive he will become a new person in a world of adults fed by lies.
After a long a career in which he gain recognition in international film festivals such as Berlin, Cannes and San Sebastián, director Agustí Villaronga (1953) was indisputably awarded for “Black bread”. With 9 Goya Awards and 13 Gaudí Awards, the film was the Spanish candidate in 2011 for best foreign language film at the Oscars Academy Awards.
