Synopsis:
Pablo Gil’s documentary uncovers the remarkable mission of a group of young Italian anthropologists who, in 1961, secretly travelled through Spain during the Franco dictatorship to record songs of resistance that were forbidden at the time. Working discreetly and always under the shadow of censorship and fear, they captured voices that might otherwise have vanished. Six decades later, the rediscovery of those tapes makes it possible to revisit that journey through surviving documents, testimonies, and the recordings themselves. The film reconstructs the political climate in which these songs were preserved and explores the cultural value of safeguarding expressions created under repression. The Drunkmen’s Marseillaise reflects on memory, music, and the fragile traces of these stories.
